So, you’re interested in pitching a product to Drop Dead Studios? You can contact Adam Meyers through the official fan Discord server (see the link in the sidebar). When doing so, answer the following questions to help the team at DDS better understand who you are and what exactly you’re proposing.

What To Expect

Review Processes: No product is perfect on its first draft. Spheres products may go through a public playtesting phase for weeks or even months before release. Be willing to accept criticism about your writing, and sometimes the need to rewrite large portions of content. This is a normal part of the publishing process, and even the most experienced writers go through this.

Payment: Pay from DDS generally comes when a product is released, especially if it’s being funded by the Patreon model. Given the release schedule, this may mean you’ll be waiting for payment for quite some time after you finish writing. Payment terms beyond this are not disclosed publicly.

Confidentiality: DDS and its team will respect your privacy. You are expected to reciprocate this. Any discussions with the company owner or the other writers should be treated as confidential and not discussed with others. Among other things, this helps to protect the reputations of everyone involved and prevents outsiders from misunderstanding things mentioned out-of-context.

Drop Dead Studios Product Types

Spheres Apocrypha: Spheres Apocrypha are about 1000 words long (with 10 pieces of smaller content, not 1-2 large pieces) and focus on a single concept. If you haven’t published anything before, writing one of these is a good way to get started. These are generally faster and easier to release.

Handbooks: Handbooks are about 15,000 words long and include a significant amount of new content. These are usually themed and may have class archetypes, new talents, new spheres, magical items, feats, etc. Most handbooks include multiple types of material. Try to avoid going over the word count limits, by the way, unless it is necessary for the product to be complete.

Other Products: Drop Dead Studios may publish other products, such as GM screens or other physical goods. These are typically evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and may require more experience creating products. It may also publish books longer than handbooks, although these are usually negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
