If the formula works once, it should work twice. The doppelchymist saw no reason that principle shouldn’t apply to themselves.
Brew Doppel (Su)
At 1st level, the doppelchymist gains the Leadership sphere, selecting the (cohort) package. The doppelchymist cannot choose a drawback that trades away the ability to recruit a cohort.
Instead of recruiting a cohort, the doppelchymist may spend 1 week preparing a doppel, an imperfect and loyal clone of the doppelchymist. Once the doppelchymist finishes preparing a doppel, they may recruit them with no additional time; time spent preparing a doppel does not “occupy” the available cohort’s slot; a doppelchymist may have a standard cohort while waiting for a doppel to be ready.
Building a Doppel: A doppel must be the same race as the doppelchymist (including the same alternate racial traits), but may be given a cohort job of the doppelchymist’s choice.
A doppel gains additional benefits as the doppelchymist gains class levels. For any alchemist class feature a doppel gains this way, the doppel treats its alchemist level as equal to the doppelchymist’s level. For example, a 9th level doppelchymist’s doppel gains the poison resistance class feature with a +6 bonus (but would not gain poison immunity until doppelchymist 13th level).
- 1st level: Unless the doppel disguises itself as something else, it is treated as constantly having a disguise to appear as the doppelchymist (with a constant Disguise check result equal to the doppel’s Disguise bonus + the doppelchymist’s level + 10).
- 5th level: The doppel gains the alchemist mutagen class feature.
- 9th level: The doppel gains the alchemist poison resistance and poison use class features.
- 13th level: The doppel gains the alchemist poison immunity class feature.
- 17th level: The doppel gains the alchemist persistent mutagen class feature.
This replaces bombs.
Author’s Note - Archetype Class Features: Doppels receive the standard alchemist class features. Subject to GM discretion, if the doppelchymist exchanged these features via an archetype, the doppel may receive those same features instead, provided they are substantially similar (such as a mindchemist’s cognatogen instead of mutagen, but not a chirugeon’s power over death instead of poison immunity).
Perfect Resemblance (Ex)
At 8th level, each of the doppelchymist’s doppels gains all of the doppelchymist’s alchemist discoveries, using its cohort level as its effective alchemist level when determining their effects (to a maximum of the doppelchymist’s class level).
If a discovery requires a choice or selection, the doppel gains the same choices or selections; if the doppel would not qualify for a choice or selection, such as not qualifying for the discovery due to having too low of an effective alchemist level or not possessing a feature the choice requires, it instead receives nothing.
This replaces the doppelchymist’s 8th-level alchemist discovery.
Sinister Rebirth (Su)
At 14th level, whenever the doppelchymist dies while a doppel lives, the next time that doppel rests for 8 hours it becomes the original. The doppelchymist wakes up in the doppel’s body, as though it had been their body all along, gaining all of the doppel’s memories as part of taking control.
If multiple doppels live when this occurs, the doppelchymist wakes in the body of a random doppel.
This replaces the doppelchymist’s 14th-level alchemist discovery.
Doppelchymist Alchemist Discoveries
The doppelchymist has exclusive access to the following alchemist discoveries:
Quick Batch (requires doppelchymist 10th level)
The doppelchymist can prepare a doppel in 24 hours rather than 1 week. Doing so strains the doppel’s body, imparting 1 temporary negative level that lasts 24 hours when the doppel is recruited.
Sympathetic Reaction (Su) (requires doppelchymist 6th level)
Whenever the doppelchymist uses an extract or benefits from a potion, elixir, instilled effect, or other alchemical or magical consumable, one doppel within close range (25 ft. + 5 ft. per 2 doppelchymist levels) also gains those effects as though separately targeted.
